3d International Meuse Symposium
April 22d & 23d, 2010

The Meuse district : challenges for tomorrow

Objectives and topics

The 3d International Scientific MEUSE Symposium will take place on April 22d and 23d 2010, in Liège. This symposium follows on from the 1st Meuse Symposium held in Maastricht in November 2002 and from the 2d Meuse Symposium held in Sedan in May 2006.

Three topics have been selected for the MEUSE Symposium 2010 :
* The emerging pollutants ;
* The water-agriculture challenge ;
* Water, Nature and Biodiversity.

The objective of the Meuse Symposium 2010 is to present an overview of the existing knowledge and to foster an exchange of information between scientists, competent authorities, water managers, water operators, companies, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders, about the challenges that the Meuse District will have to take up during the next years.

The oral communications will focus on the critical points of the present situation, the main issues that we will have to face in a near future in the Meuse District, and in particular the elements that should be taken into account during the preparation of the next management plan 2015-2021 planned by the European Water Framework Directive.

An exhibition of posters will take place during the two days of the symposium.

A special session “Junior Symposium” will held on April 22d pm.

The Meuse Symposium 2010 is organized by the Région wallonne, Direction Générale Agriculture, Ressources Naturelles et Environnement, the University of Liege (Aquapole) and the University of Namur, in collaboration with the International Meuse Commission.
